Gratitude Letter:

Time: 8m+

Please take a moment to think back over the past several years of your life and remember an instance when someone did a kind act (or acts) for you for which you are extremely grateful.

Think of the people – parents, children, spouses/partners, relatives, friends, neighbors, teachers, employers, and so on – who have been especially generous and thoughtful towards you.

For example, you may feel grateful for a friend who was there for you when you needed them, or helped give you a new perspective on things when you were upset.

Instructions:

For at least the next 8 minutes, write a letter to one of these individuals. Use the instructions below to help guide you through this process:

Evidence:

Studies have shown that writing heart-fealt gratitude letters can increase wellbeing [Boehm et al. (2011). Cognition and Emotion; Lyubomirsky et al. (2011). Emotion].
